Admission Criteria
PhD in Tourism and Heritage Management admission criteria
The following applicants may apply for admission to the Ph.D. in Tourism and Heritage Management Program:
- Any well qualified person with a master’s degree in tourism management, tourism and heritage management, tourism and development, tourism development and management, tourism and hospitality management, history and heritage management, ecotourism and biodiversity management, wildlife management, hospitality management, economics, business management, heritage management, history, geography, forestry, environmental studies, sociology, archeology, anthropology, museum studies, language.
- Academic achievement CGPA, UG (i.e. male – CGPA 2.75 and female - CGPA 2.5); PG (i.e., Male – CGPA 3.20, and female- CGPA 3.00).
- Publication based on MoSHE Journal reputability criteria, i.e., two and above article in indexed & peer reviewed journal publication (10); one article in indexed & peer reviewed journal publication (5), one paper in a proceeding (2.5), and two and more paper in proceedings (5)
- The student shall submit and present 3-5 pages of synopsis (concept paper) that show his/her research interest area. The content/structure of the concept note shall include background, research hypotheses/objectives and brief methodology,

- The PhD candidate must submit at least one recommendation letter from home institution and two from previous instructors (supervisors).
- As the medium of instruction is English, applicants whose medium of instruction at secondary and/or higher education was not English would be required to produce a certificate of proficiency in English language.
- Candidates who pass the preliminary screening can be invited for an entrance examination, based on MoSHE Selection Criteria (50%).
- Applicants who scored higher aggregate marks in entrance exam will be enrolled in the case of limited seats.
- College certificates: MSc/MA, official transcript of academic records and others.
- Admission, usually, conducts in February and/or September with the minimum number of candidates (based on availability of resources and university legislation) enrolled.
- Personal statement (personal motivation for joining to University of Gondar and enrolling in its PhD by research program and career plans after completing the PhD program).
- Must have funding (or promissory letter for funding).
- Shall identify a qualified primary advisor (PhD holder with associate professor and above) before admission.
